Einstein said that "Logic will get you from A to B, and that Imagination with take you everywhere." (pretty typical way to start a writing piece, huh?)
So NO, Im not going to tell you every detail about every shoot and bore you into knowing every intention behind my art.
For me, one of the best parts of art, no matter what form it's in, is that you don't know everything about it. I mean, how boring would it be if we knew everything, right? Not to mention unnecessary to create or view the concept at all.
The 'why behind the what' is so you see a glimpse of what's on my mind when i do what i do, and evidently by the title, why i do it.
interpretation? new perspectives? snarky comments? hell even an upcoming debate on why you disagree. Bring it on. what's the worst that could happen? another perspective for people to gaze into? besides, it couldn't hurt to see how you view my point of view either.
So, whether its the 3 am vinyl shoots i did in my dorm room at brockwood, or the crazy colours i captured at kew gardens, the one thing i can rely on is my scope to try new things, and that i don't necessarily stick to one kind of photography.
My entire life, and i'm guessng This isn't going to stop now, even if i do address it, is something iv'e seen pretty much everhwere. no matter the race, the colour, the height, the religion, the nationality, the gender, and any other label you can think of. There's always been the human urge to narrow it down. And hey, i did. I labelled me. Im a photography, im a writer, im a musician, im an artist, im a chef, im a cartoon impressionist, im a sucker for a good jim carrey movie, i ifeel like i'm not gonna stop anytime soon, so long story short, yes, I've narrowed it down.
But im not just a photographer Im not Just a writer And im not just any of the other things i mentioned
no one is.
If we narrow it down to solely my photography, you should notice there's no prequel to the word. I'm not a particular kind of photographer. Im not a wildlife photographer or a fashion photographer, I'm keeping it open. And that's not because i havent figured it out, and not because im waiting, once again, to narrow it down. Im doing it because every day i manage to learn a new technique, a new kind of environment, a new subject to hold my camera up to and capture it my way. It's because i didnt build myself all the way up here to stop. i did it grow further, and go further, and keep going.
And hey, people everywhere tell you not look back. I'm telling you you should. Look back at everything you like. See how amazingly far you've come. Look at the battles and the arguements and the good moments and the bad ones, get embarassed by that hairstyle 3 years ago and the fashion choice you made that one night after a bad breakup, do all of it.
Look back. JUst don't go back.
The why behind the what isn't just for you to listen to me, its a way for you to talk back.
Throw a few ideas at me, tell me how i can try again differently, and if i'm really lucky, i can inspire you to capture something of your own a and start experimenting with an idea that you might've not been able to bulb before. Give it a chance...what's the worst that can happen?
Welcome to the why behind the what :)
